The foundation for uniqueness

The vineyards in the valley of Margreid, Punggl, and Kurtinig grow on deep, sandy-limestone alluvial soils that formed after the reclamation (drainage and cultivation) of the originally swampy valley of the South Tyrolean Lowlands [Südtiroler Unterland; Bassa Atesina] in the 18th century by the Austrian-Hungarian Empress Maria Theresa.
