The World of Johann Tiefenthaler

A Fairytale in Stone

The Turmhof Castle Park was created beginning in 1861 and shaped over more than 40 years by Johann Tiefenthaler, a direct ancestor of the Tiefenbrunner family. In his spare time, with remarkable dedication and largely by his own hand, he transformed the grounds into an extraordinary work of art.

What emerged was far more than a garden: a richly layered artistic landscape of ponds, grottos, sculptures and frescoes. Scenes inspired by mythology and the Bible, depictions of animals and people, as well as humorous and critical reflections on human nature all shape the character of the park.

Tiefenthaler himself described his work with the words:
“Here I created many things — some in earnest, and some for laughter.”
This spirit can still be discovered throughout the park, often revealing itself only at second glance.

As a unifying element, water flows through the entire park and symbolises life, transformation and transience.

The Castle Park in Entiklar is therefore far more than a traditional garden. It is a place filled with symbolism, imagination and hidden stories — inviting visitors to look closer and make discoveries of their own.
