Pinot Nero 2005

Südtirol/Alto Adige - DOC

 

Description:

Ruby red with a deep garnet sheen, this wine has a delicate bouquet of blackberries, raspberries and cherries with a hint of vanilla. It is smooth and full-bodied, showing balance and elegance on the palate, and has both youthful force and pedigree.

Serving suggestion:

An excellent accompaniment to pork, veal or beef, lamb, poultry, game or gamebirds as well as to cheese

 

Varieties: 100% Pinot Nero (Noir)

Vineyard location: steep slope vineyards in Graun, near Kurtatsch (750 – 850 meters above sea level) and in Montan (450 – 650 meters above sea level)

Soil: chalk gravel moraine soil

Growing system: pergola; 3.500 vines / hectare

Yield: 70 - 75 hl / hectare

Age of vines: till 20 years

Vinification: Fermented in contact with the skins in stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in large wooden casks.  1/3 of the wine is aged in small oak barrels, the rest in large wooden casks.

Receptacles: stainless steel, large wooden casks and barriques

Alcohol content: 13.0% by vol.

Total acidity: 5.0 g / litre

Residual sugars: 2.9 g / litre
